Daniela Day 4 - (3/9)

A Day in the Life of a Teacher: Day 4...
Oh Thursdays...since returning to work after having Liam I kept noticing that my biggest frustrations and sometimes meltdowns would occur on Thursdays. Once again, today I am seriously exhausted. I think it's just that by this point the lack of sleep has caught up with me but because it's not Friday, I can't just power through the day.
Right before 4th period I got a really bad migraine and I've been fighting it ever since so I'm not sure how much of a post I'll be able to muster up tonight.
Today we took the district benchmark test in all 3 of my Biology classes so all 3 classes went pretty similarly. I took up cell phones before the test started and kept them until all students were finished. I did this mainly so that they'd take their time and not rush through thinking they'd be able to play on their phones as soon as they finished. This also allowed me to somewhat relax a little while they tested since I didn't have to police the room for phone use the entire time. I still circulated the room but caught up on grading using a clipboard while my students worked. Registration for next year is still going on so I had a few students who missed their test and will have to find a time for them to make the test up at some point.
For the first time this week I had a full planning period and had some time to catch up and breathe a little.
The best part of the day was during 4th period when my student who scored a 90 (and typically scores this way) hugged her friend who usually fails all assessments but today scored a 65 (let me remind you this is my sheltered ESL class so a failing grade is not due to a lack of effort!). She was so proud of her friend and it really warmed my heart to see the best student in the class encourage her friend who frequently fails test after test.
Needless to say, I think we are all excited to be finished with these tests this week and to catch our breath tomorrow as we head into the weekend!
